GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this extensively restored and modified 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente for your consideration. Finished in Wimbledon White with period-style graphics over a restored White interior with Blue carpeting, this rust-free Arizona two-door hardtop was built in the spirit of Mercury's legendary B/FX drag cars. Beneath its fiberglass ram-air hood is a 331ci stroker roller V8 featuring a roller camshaft, aluminum rocker arms, ported aluminum 351W cylinder heads, and a new Edelbrock Air-Gap intake topped with dual Edelbrock carburetors. Power is delivered through a manual transmission and Ford 9-inch rear end. Supporting upgrades include a new aluminum water pump, radiator, lightweight starter, one-wire alternator, distributor, ignition wires, oversized oil pan, exhaust with cutouts, fuel tank, clutch, flywheel, brake lines, master cylinder, steering components, and front and rear springs. Front disc brakes and larger rear drums provide upgraded stopping power. The refreshed cabin features bucket seats and a purposeful radio- and heater-delete configuration. Fewer than 100 miles have been added since the restoration was completed. Drive this one out of our showroom or have us assist with shipping it to you anywhere in the United States! Don't hesitate to call us with any questions or for more information.
The Mercury Comet received a major redesign for 1964, gaining sharper, more squared-off styling and a distinctive hardtop roofline. The same era also marked Mercury's growing involvement in Ford's “Total Performance” racing campaign, where specially prepared Comets competed in NHRA factory experimental classes. Their lightweight construction, powerful Ford V8 engines, and unmistakable drag-strip presence helped establish the Comet as far more than an economy compact. Built as a tribute to that exciting period of Mercury racing history, this Comet combines classic 1964 styling with the stance, performance equipment, and visual character of a vintage B/FX machine.
